Test Episode # 4!! Y’all, thanks so much for all the feedback we’ve received, it’s been really helpful. Doing this ETB podcast with Joel and Jakey has been so much friggin’ fun, for real, way more fun than I thought it would be. I don’t think that Jakey Lutsko could ever be thanked enough for what he’s been doing and my hope is that we can keep on this track throughout the new year. We talked a lot about just being a musician this week. Expectations are a centerpiece, being creative and dealing with the lack of creativity are also topics we discuss. Jakey, Joel, and I are all different types of musicians in differing genres but we all still face a lot of the same hurdles. Joel’s candor about his initial struggles when he moved to town is especially helpful and I appreciate him being so candid. Please keep letting us know what you think, the easiest way is over at the EatTheBrick.Com contact page

<![CDATA[Test Episode #3 is live!]]> Hi y’all! Ok, here’s test episode number 3! This is kind of a slow week musically but even on slow weeks it seems like there’s still a ton to talk about out in Chattanooga music. The list of shows we looked at are above and we talked a pretty good bit about a few different local artists. I personally was in discover mode. A few months back I was approached by a local band whose name I’d heard but hadn’t listened to, mainly because they were outside of my ‘genre’. Dolphin Group asked if I’d be willing to open their next album release show at Songbirds. I immediately said yes, I love going off into the unknown musically and this seemed to be another opportunity to, at the very least, have a musical adventure. That show is coming up and in preparation I started listening to a lot of Dolphin Group songs. I was instantly ticked off at myself for not having discovered this crew earlier and now DG is one of my favorite bands to listen to in the truck. In this same spirit, the podcast had me in my local music discovery mode this week. I found some really great bands in town and getting the chance to talk about them with Joel was something I was really looking forward to. He really gets excited about new fun stuff and his reactions get me excited to tell him!. We’re working on our excitement issues together. We’ve been trying out a few different things on this episode and I kind of feel like we are really honing in on how we can best format it, how we can work a schedule for it, how we can keep going, how we can best serve our community, and what it’s going to take to make it happen. I cannot even put into words how grateful I am for Jakey Lutsko! He’s done an unreal amount of work on this and his eye and ear have really made ETB what it is. OK, we all love each other and hopefully this doesn’t suck. Here’s Test Episode 3

<![CDATA[test Episode # 2 is alive!]]> Thanks everyone for all the positive messages and feedback we’ve received since our first test episode. We got 101 streams and 13 subscribers which is way better than I thought we would do! We’re rolling out another test episode this morning on our Youtube page. It’s been really fun getting into the scene, learning about new local musicians or at least one’s that are new to me. Cha Jazz Fest had just happened and we talk some about the event’ success and the inspirational amount of effort that Adam Stone and his team put in. It was truly fun to watch and be a part of, big congratulations and win for Adam Stone and RiverCity Company. This week we also took a look at Calendars. There are a pretty good selection in town, we looked at a few online and based around websites. Figuring out where people get their info on upcoming shows is a constantly changing challenge for every artist. Finding out about when/where cool shows are happening is also constantly changing. Where do y’all find out about your shoes? Friends? Calendars? Social Media, if so who’s Social Media? Please let us know what we missed, which I know is probably a lot. We decided to set up a contact page on our website just for this, EatTheBrick.com

<![CDATA[Here we go!]]> Ok, well here we go! You’ve just stumbled upon a project I’ve been working on with 2 of my favorite people, Joel Forlines and Jakey Lutsko. A few years back I’d had the idea to start a podcast about the local music scene. It’s always been a shame to me that anytime you bring up the words ‘Chattanooga Music Scene’ you’re met with scoffs and eye rolls, especially by local musicians. Grumblings about how Chattanooga has no music scene and cover bands and get all the good shows are inevitable. It also occurred to me that the most time local musicians were looking up other local acts was when they had conflicting shows. There had been a few attempts in the past to make a more cohesive ‘scene’, most had fallen flat or run out of steam or more likely, they ran out of money. A few folks recently have began to take up those mantles again which got Joel and I talking a lot about our respective ‘scenes’ in Chattanooga. What was good? What needed improvement? How is it that people could listen to some of the music around town and still act like we didn’t have a great music scene? Did they just not know? Joel and I had been having this discussion weekly out on the porch at Barrelhouse Ballroom when the idea reappeared, let’s have this conversation on a podcast and highlight some upcoming shows! If this music scene needs promotion, let’s make a vehicle to promote a bunch of shows in town and go for it. The line was, ‘Somebody’s eventually gonna have to just Eat the Brick and do it’, alas it was born and named on that concrete pad. We decided on a date, showed up and made a podcast together. It was our first try and though it wasn’t very good, Joel and I had a ton of fun doing it. We both knew that something was missing though and I felt that Jakey Lutsko was the missing piece. Jakey’s production skill set and his knowledge of local hip hop and indie scenes made him an immediate asset. We tried again and Jakey made up a KILLER set and shot out of the BHB green room. This is that episode. We have a few bumps in the road audio wise and we are still working on the format but we wanted to go ahead and put out the YouTube version to a few folks just to show y’all what we’ve been up to. It’s a lot of work but it’s also a lot of fun. We hope folks listen and like it.
